EVENT DESCRIPTION

Our next Reporter Pitch session (a virtual event), with Mike Casey (Associated Press), is scheduled for Wed., April 19 at 2:30 pm EDT. We've rescheduled and modified the description of Mike's interest, so please read closely. It now covers two widely different topics.

First, Mike covers VT, ME, MA, NH, and RI, and travels in that area as a science and technology reporter. He's interested in feature science stories and research in other than the most highly rated journals. The top journals are covered by the national bureau AP staff. Some of his interests are:

* climate change
* animal behavior
* earth science
* astronomy (planetary science, black holes)
* dinosaurs
* robots/AI/virtual reality
* human evolution or paleontology or archeology

Second, he is writing a book based on his experience covering the Indonesian tsunami in 2004. The book explores cultural changes following a catastrophe, and while it focuses on Indonesia also deals with Sri Lanka, Thailand and India. He's interested in political, economic, disaster relief efforts and religious changes (especially the role of Islam in society), and the effects on individuals, such as the changes to women, gays, and transgender.

He's looking for popular science stories--with video potential. Provide visuals; at least think about the possibility and if possible have a brief—less than 30 second sample--to share during your pitch.

You can read more about Mike on his LinkedIn profile or his website IndonesiaMike.
