EVENT DESCRIPTION
Susan covers evolutionary and organismal biology (but not primates). She requests pitches on: (1) Unusual, photogenic creatures (animal, plant, fungal, whatever) in recent papers or ongoing research that could be profiled in Science News’ It's Alive series on unusual research organisms. Successful ideas need a big “wow” factor, showy photo possibilities and researchers willing and able to speak charmingly. (2) Research projects involving animal weaponry or conflicts (biomechanics of teeth/fangs, evolution or resolution of lethal conflict), (3) Research on attempts to cope with food insecurity, and (4) Fresh ideas for undercovered topics that might turn into an enterprise story.
